A game state is a web of relationships, not a set of isolated player dots.

This board uses a generic invasion-game space because spacing concepts are easy to see there. The descriptions stay intentionally broad rather than declaring a single sport, formation, or doctrine to be universal.

These are schematic shapes for invasion-style team games, not prescribed formations. They make spacing, support, overload, width, and transition visible without pretending soccer, basketball, hockey, football, lacrosse, and other sports use the same tactics.

Wide positions can force an opponent to defend a larger horizontal span, opening interior lanes or isolated matchups. The tradeoff is longer support distance if possession is lost.

This idealized model isolates two variables that matter in many airborne sport objects: launch speed and launch angle. It is useful for seeing relationships, not for predicting a real kick, throw, serve, shot, or jump.

Real sport trajectories can diverge sharply because drag, spin-induced forces, release height, equipment, wind, ball shape, contact mechanics, and athlete technique matter.

The scoreboard is an outcome. The subject is the system that produced it.

Sports can be studied through mechanics, physiology, psychology, data, history, sociology, economics, media, ethics, law, design, and culture. No single lens is the whole game.

01Rules make the gameA sport is not just movement. Rules, boundaries, scoring, equipment, officiating, and competition formats create the problem athletes are trying to solve.
02Skill is adaptiveTechnique matters, but expertise also depends on perceiving changing information and selecting actions under pressure, uncertainty, fatigue, opponents, and time constraints.
03Tactics are relationalSpacing, support, matchups, tempo, deception, possession, transitions, and risk only make sense in relation to teammates, opponents, rules, and game state.
04Measurement needs contextA metric can describe part of performance without explaining why it happened. Role, opponent, sample, tactical context, selection effects, and uncertainty can change interpretation.
